February layout update

February 2, 2025, 11:19 am

The year has started well with lots of activity across our projects!

No less than 8 projects are currently being worked on by our members. It is fantastic to see such progress being made on so many fronts.

First up is our new 00/009 tail chaser exhibition layout.

The group have made an exceptional start and most of the viewing side boards have been constructed. The team are having another building day on Monday to accelerate the project. This is just one of the positives in having 24/7 access to our club premises.

Milford Park – N gauge

David & John are making good progress on getting the layout ready for its first show in September of this year. Detailing is now in full swing as can be seen in the photo above. The platforms are also being made.

St Ann – 00 gauge

Track has now been laid down and glued. Wire droppers have been soldered on to the raila and holes for the point motors drilled. This is a big step forward for the project.

Threwn – 009

The layout is due to go out to an exhibition in April. We have been wanting to make some wiring modifications to the layout so that two controllers can be used. This will speed up movements and give enhanced interest to the public. Some scenic repairs and improvements are also going to be tackled.

Cornish Lines – N gauge

The long running project to build new beams and trestles for Padstow and Wadebridge (plus other projects) is finally nearing completion. All of the beams are now complete, painting and numbering of the ends for identification is now in progress, before final varnishing. The trestles have had their hinges fitted and the holes for the securing bar drilled as well. Within two weeks, I expect this project to be complete.

Lowe Quay – 00 gauge
Colin has made good progress in fitting frog juicers to all of the points on the lower section, which should greatly improve relaliabilty. He is also working on the fiddle yard and upper scenic sections at home.

Bodmin General – N gauge

The layout has been requested for a filming project and therefore it needed to be set up for testing and some maintenance. Sadly, it does need some work on it which will be tackled over the next couple of weeks.
